We sail across the IJsselmeer to Medenblik. So we sail from a Hanseatic town to the oldest town in West Frisia: Medenblik. It received its town charter in 1289 from Count Floris V of Holland. He also had Radboud Castle built in Medenblik. You can see this when you drive in on the left (port) side. It is also worth taking a walk to this place after dinner.

"Through the Afsluitdijk to the largest Wadden Island Texel" is the plan for Wednesday. We leave the harbour and sail to the Stevin lock near Den Over, where we enter the Wadden Sea. The Afsluitdijk was opened to traffic on 25 September 1933. This dike was built to protect the small villages on the Zuiderzee, and it also created the polder areas. Now we can come to the Wadden Sea with speedboats. The Wadden Sea is a tidal water. That makes sailing in this area particularly pleasant. Here you are very dependent on the tide. In fact, you can't just sail any route. The sandbanks make the skipper very dependent on the water level. The Elizabeth is not meant to sail on dry land. But rest assured that the skipper is an experienced sailor. The fishing harbour of Texel is not only a good starting point for Thursday, but you can also eat very good fish here.

On Thursday we sail through the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site to the Wadden Island of Terschelling. You will experience a fantastic sailing trip. Sailing along the sandbanks, we set course for Terschelling. A beautiful island! Terschelling is home to the Brandaris, a square lighthouse. This is unique in the Wadden Sea. The island offers many possibilities, you can rent a bike to cycle to the North Sea beach or take a walk to the green beach where you can also see the island of Vlieland in the distance. Terschelling also has nice pubs where you can have a beer.
